Sanjog’s Interventions
Drug Rehabilitation Center for Juveniles and Young Adults in District Jail, Lahore (2014 to date)
After indulging criminal activities, approximately 70% of the released prisoners return to jail within a short duration (cf: District Jail Lahore). Most of inmates in prison have a history of drug use. Sanjog realized that there is a dire need to establish drug rehabilitation center for juveniles and young adults in District Jail Lahore. For this purpose Sanjog has established a center comprises of two segments (a) psychosocial counseling and (b) vocational training for giving technical hands to prisoners.
The main objective of services is to address the psychological needs of all offenders who are undergoing prison based rehabilitation during their incarceration. The goal of the prisoner’s rehabilitation programs is to reform the prisoners from committing crimes and assisting them is starting normal lives without any criminal activity.
Project’s specific objectives are:
- To reduce drug use
- To reduce re-offending
- To improve health and social functioning
- To enhance technical skills for the employment
Drug use is a major public health problem because of the multiple effects of drug abuse on users, their families, and their communities. Developing effective interventions to prevent or reduce the frequent consumption of drugs is highly important. Sanjog foresee the outcome as:
- 200 juvenile and young adults have been vocationally trained per annum
- 500 juveniles and young adults have been counseled per annum
